# Publishing

> Make your automation changes live by publishing your flow.

Changes you make in the flow builder are saved as a **draft** and do not affect your live automation until you publish them. This lets you edit and test freely without interrupting running flows.

## Publishing your changes

When you are done making changes, click the **Publish** button in the top-right corner of the flow builder.

Once published, your updated flow becomes active immediately and will run on all future trigger events.

<Note>
  Only the most recently published version of a flow runs in production. Drafts are never executed automatically.
</Note>

## What happens after you publish

* The current draft is promoted to **Published** status.
* The previously published version is saved in version history so you can refer back to it.
* Any new edits you make after publishing create a fresh draft, leaving the published version untouched until you publish again.

For more on how versions work, see [Version History](/automation-platform/versioning).

<Tip>
  Test every step in your draft before publishing. Use the **Runs** view after publishing to confirm the flow executes as expected on real events.
