# Number Types

> Understand the three types of phone numbers you can use with DialogBot : dedicated numbers, SIP integration, and Caller ID.

DialogBot supports three ways to connect a phone number to your AI assistant. Choose the option that best fits how you want to handle inbound and outbound calls.

## Dedicated (normal) numbers

Rent a number directly from DialogBot .

* Available for **both inbound and outbound** calls
* Billed as a monthly rental fee
* Supports multiple parallel calls on a single number
* Purchased and managed entirely within the DialogBot dashboard

**Best for:** Businesses that need a dedicated business line and want the simplest setup with no existing telephony infrastructure.

## SIP integration (VoIP/PBX)

Connect an existing VoIP or PBX number via SIP trunk.

* Works for **both inbound and outbound** calls
* Lets you keep your existing numbers while using DialogBot AI
* Configured in the dashboard under **Phone Numbers**

**Best for:** Businesses with an established PBX or VoIP provider who want to add AI without changing their existing telephony setup.

See the [SIP Integration Guide](/provisioning/sip-trunking/sip-integration) for step-by-step setup instructions.

## Caller ID (outbound only)

Use an existing phone number — such as your personal or business line — as the Caller ID for outbound calls.

* Displays your chosen number on the recipient's caller ID
* Ownership verified via a one-time code (OTP) or a short verification call
* **Does not support inbound calls** — the AI will not answer calls to this number

**Best for:** Businesses that only need outbound calling and want calls to appear from a number customers already recognise.

## Choosing the right option

| Need | Recommended option |
| ---------------------------------------- | ------------------ |
| Inbound calls, no existing VoIP | Dedicated number |
| Inbound + outbound with existing PBX | SIP integration |
| Outbound only, keep your existing number | Caller ID |
