There are multiple ways to test your AI assistant, depending on whether you want to test inbound or outbound functionality and how quickly you want to iterate.
Cost notice: Both web call and phone call testing deduct from your account balance at the same per-minute rate as live calls. Testing is not free. Plan your sessions to manage costs.

Web call testing

Test your assistant directly in the browser without a phone.
1

Go to your assistant dashboard

Navigate to Assistants and open the assistant you want to test.
2

Start a web call

Click the “Speak with your assistant” button.
3

Have a conversation

Speak through your browser microphone. Evaluate voice quality, response timing, and conversation flow.
Pros:
  • Instant testing without any phone setup.
  • Tests voice components and response timing.
  • Accessible directly from the dashboard.
Cons:
  • Call transfer functionality does not work during web testing. Use phone testing to verify transfers.

Phone call testing (outbound)

Test your assistant by receiving a call on your own phone.
1

Open assistant settings

Navigate to your assistant’s settings page.
2

Initiate a test call

Find the “Speak to your assistant” purple button, enter your phone number, and click to start.
3

Receive the call

Your AI assistant will call you immediately. Test the full outbound flow including the initial message and any tools.

Inbound call testing

Test how your assistant handles incoming calls.
1

Confirm a number is assigned

Make sure a phone number is assigned to your assistant in its settings.
2

Call the number

Dial your assistant’s number from any phone.
3

Verify the experience

Your AI assistant will answer and handle the call. Check the initial greeting, response quality, and any configured tools.
Save your assistant’s phone number in your contacts so you can make inbound test calls quickly whenever you update the prompt or settings.

What to test

Start with web calls

Use web call testing for quick iterations:
  • Basic conversation flow and voice quality.
  • System prompt behaviour and response timing.
  • Knowledge base queries (if configured).

Move to phone calls for full coverage

Use phone call testing before going live:
  • All tools including call transfers.
  • Real-world call audio quality and timing.
  • Edge cases, interruptions, and unusual inputs.
  • Variable extraction and webhook delivery.

Testing checklist

Before deploying your assistant to a live number or campaign, verify:
  • Voice clarity and response speed
  • Initial message pronunciation and timing
  • Knowledge base accuracy (if configured)
  • Tool functionality: transfer, scheduling, custom tools
  • Variable extraction matches expected values
  • Webhook delivery — check your endpoint receives data
  • Edge cases and error handling
  • Call ending behaviour
